Hello readers! I wanted to let you know that the e-book version of Quests is now up for sale for those who would like to buy a copy. You can find it for Kindle here and for Nook here. The story will also remain available for free in the blog archives. As I have been seeing better sales from my e-books than my print books in recent years, I am not planning to make Quests available in print at this time unless I receive an overwhelming number of requests for print books. For this reason, if you want a print copy of the book please say so. I plan to take some time off from writing and will most likely not announce a new writing project for some time. A Quick News Update
Yes, I know I have fallen behind in my posts again. I have a lot of other projects I'm working on at home and sometimes blogging gets pushed lower on the list. For that reason I have decided to switch my blogging schedule to one story post a month with an addition news post every once in a while when I have announcements and such to share. I will begin writing on this new schedule in January of 2014 at which time I hope to begin posting part 2 of the Quests series. In the meantime I still have 2, possibly 3 episodes from Quests part 1 which I will edit then post in the next couple weeks before Thanksgiving. The next episode is not quite ready to make its appearance today, but you can expect to see it either late this week or early next week, so stay tuned!

Quests Episode Eleven: Dawn’s Curse
Sorry for skipping a week, I got busy taking care of my household and am finding it a bit hard to consistently post something every week, partially due to having only intermittent internet (long story). On that note I want to make a few brief announcements before continuing to the next episode.
First, I'm thinking about switching to a blog post once a month or every two weeks rather than once a week. I will decide how often I wish to be blogging and announce the new blog schedule at the end of the year.
Also, I am close to the end of part 1 of Quests so I am going to use October and November to finish posting part 1, take a break in December for Advent and the early part of the Christmas Season, and resume with Quests part 2 sometime after New Year's.
That said, we now return to our regularly scheduled story...

Episode Eleven: Dawn’s Curse
“They didn’t make it. Turned to stone. Stupid elves!”
Fedrick had realized long ago that Felnar babbled when she was nervous or scared. Still, he found her incoherent rambling irritating.
“Felnar, slow down and tell me what you’re talking about,” he demanded.
“The stinking elves made some of us trolls stay out when the sun came up,” said Felnar, “So the ones who were outside turned to stone. I barely made it back to my cave on time. I almost died!”
“Elves?” said Fedrick in confusion. “I still don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“The elves didn’t want us to hunt unicorns, they want us to starve!” Felnar explained. “So they tried to turn us all to stone. It worked on few of us too!”
“When did elves get involved? I think there’s more to this story. Calm yourself down and tell me what happened, the whole story, starting when you began hunting in Fairy Wood.”
“Okay,” said Felnar after taking a deep breath. “But I warn you, it’s not a good story.”
“Just tell me,” Fedrick replied.
So Felnar told Fedrick the tale of the troll’s terrible adventure of the past night.

The previous night Felnar had joined a larger hunting party of trolls making their way to Fairy Wood. Her mouth watered at the thought of the fresh unicorn meat on which they would soon feast. As the rocky heights of the foothills gave way to the tall trees and tangled undergrowth of the woods, the trolls crouched low and sniffed the ground until they picked up the scent of unicorn. It did not take them long to spot a large herd. They spread out and stalked forward, hoping to surround their prey and bring them down quickly. A tiny breeze stirred the leaves and carried the smell of trolls to the nose of a large male unicorn. He tossed his head in fright and whinnied a warning to the rest of the herd. The unicorns reacted immediately, stampeding into the depths of the forest with the trolls in hot pursuit.
Felnar’s mind was so filled with thoughts of juicy unicorn meat that she didn’t notice the gnome on the head of the lead unicorn until he shouted, “Split up!” Then everything became total chaos. It was hard for Felnar to understand what happened, even afterward.
When the gnome shouted, the unicorns split into several factions, each veering off in a different direction. The trolls in the lead stopped in confusion. Felnar and a few others bumped into them before they could stop themselves, and they all fell in a heap. While they were still trying to get to their feet, a number of strange noises came out of the woods around them and a shower of stones and pine cones fell on their heads. The trolls ducked into the underbrush until the confusion ceased.
A troll patriarch yelled, “Split up and see if you can catch any of the unicorns.” The hunting party hurried to obey. Felnar’s group went after the portion of the unicorn herd the gnome had joined. As they tracked the unicorns Felnar couldn’t help but wish she could catch the gnome. She would make him pay for messing up their hunting! The trolls ran a long distance and used their claws to climb through a ravine before they spotted the unicorns.
“Try to surround them,” said one of the trolls. “We’ll back them off the ledge and then have easy pickings.”
The trolls fanned out and, despite the gnome’s directions to them, the unicorns were soon backing toward the drop. Felnar was pleased by the knowledge that the gnome would probably fall to his death along with the unicorns he was trying to protect. She grinned at the thought as she moved closer with the rest of her hunting party.
The unicorns were only a few feet from the edge, when the trolls noticed an elf with short black hair on the other side of the gorge. They noticed her because she yelled something. Felnar didn’t know what the elf shouted. Perhaps it was an elvish curse. Then the elf jumped out over the chasm. Felnar watched in mild fascination, thinking the elf incredibly stupid since she would surely fall. In the next second the elf cleared the gap and crashed into the trolls. The she kicked Felnar hard in the jaw, knocking the troll to the ground. Gripped with a sudden fear of this elf, who could seemingly fly, Felnar scrambled to her feet and hurried after the other trolls as they scattered in terror.
Once Felnar had calmed down a bit she realized that she was alone. In her panic she had gotten separated from the other members of her party. Just as she was getting worried, she ran into a hobgoblin. He had his face in his hands and was sobbing. Felnar approached him cautiously, wondering if the elves had attacked him too. Finally she worked up enough courage to ask, “What’s wrong?”
The hobgoblin dropped his hands, stopped crying and answered, “I can’t remember.”
They stared at each other for a minute before the hobgoblin said, “I’m Glibbin, what’s your name?”
She told him, then asked, “What are you doing here?”
“Playing,” said Glibbin. “What are you doing?”
“I was hunting,” Felnar replied. “But the elves and fairies ruined everything!”
“They probably didn’t mean to.”
“Yes they did. They tried to kill me!”
“They’re not so bad once you get to know them,” said Glibbin.
“I can’t get to know them!” Felnar squeaked. “If I get too close to them I’ll die!”
“They can’t be that bad. Hey, do you want to play with me?”
“I can’t. I have to get home before the elves find me or the sun rises.”
“You better hurry,” Glibbin commented glancing at the sky. “The sun will come up pretty soon.”
Felnar also looked at the sky and suddenly realized that it was getting lighter.
“Oh no!” she squealed and dashed in the direction of her cave as fast as she could go.
As she ran, Felnar joined other trolls who had also realized how early it was and were trying to make it back to their caves. The trolls were nearly out of the forest when a few elves stepped into their path. Some of the trolls screamed and veered away from the main group. Others snarled and charged the elves, clawing and biting their way past them. Felnar stayed close to these fighters, deciding that was safest. Finally, the small group made it to the entrance of the underground city. They ran inside just as the sun appeared on the edge of the horizon. Felnar and those with her moved into the shadows of the cave where they were safe from the rays of the sun. A terrible shrieking from just outside told them that many trolls were not so fortunate. The sound was so horrible that Felnar covered her ears. In a few short minutes it was over. It was clear that many trolls from the hunting party had been petrified by the coming of the dawn.
Distressed by the loss of some of her troll friends, Felnar wandered the city babbling incoherently until she found Fedrick. As she told him the story, Felnar realized with a shiver that she could easily have been one of those turned to stone had she not been so fast. She knew that the trolls’ hunt of the unicorns in Fairy Wood was over for good.

Quests status update
Sorry for the delay between posts. I got busy around the 4th of July and episode 4 of Quests took me longer to edit than I was hoping. I'm going to spend one more week making last minute edits to episode 4 and will post it next Wednesday. The series will continue as planned after that and I will be sure to alert you if I run into any more delays. Thank you for your patience and please check back next week to read more of the Quests series.

Quests Serial Novel, Coming Soon!
I must once again apologize for my extended silence and lack of updates this year. It took me a lot longer than I was hoping to pull my new writing projects together and decide which ones to give my attention. However, I'm finally ready to come out of the woodwork and make the big announcement about the wonderful new things you can expect to read from yours truly.
I think several of you enjoyed reading the Silver Sword Saga as I posted episodes here in a serial novel format for a little over a year. If you haven't read these stories yet you can find the collection for sale on Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook or in this paperback edition. I really enjoyed the serial novel style of writing and have decided to continue to post stories to my blog in a serial format before releasing them for sale.
That brings me to my next bit of news: starting the end of May/beginning of June I will be serializing my Quests series and posting episodes to my blog every Wednesday. The Quests 1 prologue involving some Irowasan mythology which sets the scene for the series will be posted Wednesday, May 29 followed by the 1st episode June 5. If for whatever reason I run into delays in releasing an episode, I will announce so here along with a new estimated release date.
Now some of you may be thinking, "Okay, but the first book of Quest is already up for sale and I can just go buy it and read it." Well, it is true that I published book one a few years ago, but since the set up of the series practically begs to be serialized, I've decided to take the first book down, make some changes and re-release it via the blog before releasing the rest of the series. As of June 1st the old version of Quests 1 will no longer be available for sale, so if you desperately want to buy the old version, May 2013 is your last chance to do so!
Your next questions are probably, "What can I expect to see in the new version of Quests? What's going to be different about the serialized edition?" The answer is that you will see a much more streamlined story. There were far too many times in book one where I rambled or went off on long tangents. All of those places will be cut out, which I'll admit will mean that I'll be cutting whole episodes in places and dropping some fairly good material! :,( The bottom line, though, is that it will be a much stronger, tighter, more exciting story that sticks to its central plot. For those of you who don't know or forgot what that plot is, here's the summery from the back of book 1:
Training for quests seemed hard but the quest for Fairy Wood may prove even harder...
Beritta, princess of elves, longs for the adventure of a real quest until she and her friend, Faralasa, are sent to Fairy Wood to protect unicorns. Once there, they learn that some sinister force is at work, polluting the forest’s waterways. Meanwhile, in deep twisting caverns of an underground city Fedrick, a goblin boy, and Felnar, a troll girl, must convince a terrible snake monster named Serpina to become an ally before she kills all the creatures living under the mountain. When the dwarves are attacked by Serpina and the goblins, a fairy messenger named Lilac, and her friends give the dwarves a gift to protect them. Then, as the water in Fairy Wood mysteriously becomes poisoned, the fairies and elves join forces to fight the growing threat and protect the forest.

Release of the Silver Sword Saga Anthology
I'm pleased to announce that the moment I have been building up to is finally here: I have released the collection of Silver Sword Saga stories for sale! The anthology is available in paperback from the Createspace e-store and Amazon.com for $6.00 as well as on Kindle for $3.00. I really enjoyed writing these stories and hope you will enjoy reading them just as much, so please check out this book.
I would also like you to know that my wonderful friend, the artist Karolyn Walker, has provided beautiful new cover art for my short stories Swan Warrior and Legend of Nomenie which are available on Kindle for $0.99. You can view the new artwork by clicking on the names of the stories above. Swan Warrior is also included in the Silver Sword Saga anthology but since it was a reader favorite here I chose to make it available separately for those who want to download just that story. All 5 parts of Swan Warrior are included in the $0.99 download.
Even though I have not entered this year, I would like to point out that the annual Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award is in progress and is currently in its second round. The quarterfinal round starts March 20th and that's where the contest gets interesting for readers because Amazon posts the first couple chapters of all the novels still in the running as free downloads. If you have a chance I highly recommend sampling some of these awesome novels. Just don't forget that the authors appreciate getting reviews which help them assess what readers think of their books. Also, if you have an Amazon account you can vote for the 2 winners, one in young adult one in adult fiction, starting on May 22. The contest is a lot of fun and the reader interaction in the last few rounds makes it interesting to follow too.

February 2012 News
Hello again readers!
I'm pleased to announce that this March a beautiful single volume edition of the Silver Sword Saga stories will be released in paperback and Kindle. The paperback volume will be $6.00 and the Kindle will be $3.00. Here's what the cover is going to look like:
With the end of the Silver Sword Saga I plan to begin a new series of short stories on my blog in the coming months.
I will be completing edits for Quests 2: Penumbra, sequel to Quests: A Time of Training this year. The release date for Penumbra will be some time in the summer so watch for more details in the coming months.
Also, please note that I have dropped the price of The Jericho Effect paperbacks to $10.00. The price of the Kindle edition remains $5.00.

With the end of the Silver Sword Saga I plan to begin a new series of short stories on my blog in the coming months.
I will be completing edits for Quests 2: Penumbra, sequel to Quests: A Time of Training this year. The release date for Penumbra will be some time in the summer so watch for more details in the coming months.
Also, please note that I have dropped the price of The Jericho Effect paperbacks to $10.00. The price of the Kindle edition remains $5.00.

Fall 2011 News
Hello blog readers!
I wanted to write a quick note to explain that my writing projects have been interrupted by this crazy thing called LIFE! That brings me to my first and most important piece of news: on November 12, 2011 I am going to marry my childhood friend, Brien Hartung. Because I will be spending the next two months focusing on wedding preparations, all my writing projects are being put on hold until after November. This includes the conclusion of the Silver Sword Saga which I was originally planning to release around Halloween, the release of the Silver Sword anthology and my work on Quests 2.
In other news I plan to continue using "Rebekah Prudhomme" as my pen-name. If you wish to find updates on my writing projects you can continue to follow this blog, go to my Amazon Author Central page, or if you use Facebook "like" my brand new author fan page.

Quests 2 Preview!

Limited Edition Release!
To quote a song from a Disney cartoon, "It's here, the moment you've been waiting for!" That's right, the limited edition copies of The Jericho Effect are now for sale in paperback from Createspace and e-book from the Kindle store. Clearly some of you really have been waiting for this as several copies sold in the first day the book was available. At the end of September I will evaluate how the book did to decide if I will have a second print-run over the Christmas holidays and possibly make the book available for good. Still, this is your chance to get one of those limited edition copies to show off to your friends and keep as a collector's item, so please help me to keep my sales up over the summer. This month I have some exciting news which I hope will interest you. I have decided to sell a number of my stories online for affordable prices. ABNA 2011 Round 1
The lists are now up announcing the authors and novels which made the cut and will advance to the 2nd round of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Sadly, my novel, The Jericho Effect, did not make the cut this year. I'm not too disappointed since I know I was up against some really great fellow aspiring authors. I intend to continue to follow the contest and support these other writers and I encourage my readers to do the same.
What does not making the cut mean for The Jericho Effect? Simple, it means it is time to look into other plans for moving this novel forward in the future. I was considering getting a few copies out to friends and family via print-on-demand and e-book over the summer. If you might be interested in obtaining a copy in this way please let me know and I'll be sure to keep you updated.

NaNoWriMo 2010: Magic War
This November for National Novel Writing Month I, Rebekah Prudhomme, am proud to present the tale of Irowasa’s magic war!
Synopsis: Luker and Agwana, the children of witches possessing strange abilities as the after effects of magical experiments, escape a cult of Dark Magicians and flee to Fairy Wood. Fearing they will jeopardize his secret plans, the sorcerer Drazil hires mercenaries to hunt them.
For Elmonrona, the fairy queen's monster hunter, a partnership with Luker and Agwana provides the key to finding Drazil, whom she has been hunting for years. The trail takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon a village in the kingdom, Windola which is plagued by monsters. There Elmonrona and the children form an alliance with other warriors determined to use all their skills to stop Drazil's evil from spreading.
Background: Magic War was inspired by a trip to York, England in 2006 and was more fully fleshed with the help of a few friends with big imaginations and the inclination to dress up in odd costumes and fight battles against imaginary monsters. Now all those friends finally get to see their daring deeds written as a novel just as I promised when the “war” ended. For those of you who were waiting for this story I apologize that it took me so long to organize my notes. To the rest of you I just have to say, get ready for a super exciting story full of magicians, monsters, fairies and warriors battling for dominance through magic! Also be sure to watch for a couple teaser clips from the book which I’ll be posting later this month.

ABNA Finals
The finalists for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award have been announced! For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about I'll just say that my YA fantasy novel, The Jericho Effect, was a Quarterfinalist in this contest and it is a really fun interactive competition for new writers. At this final round any customer of Amazon.com can vote for the 2 winners, one YA book and one adult book. I encourage everyone to go to the contest page, read the finalists' excerpts (first few chapters of their books) and vote for the winners. All the writers in this contest are really good and deserve to win the grand prize of publication.

ABNA Semi-Finals
Well the Semi-Final lists are up for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award but my YA book The Jericho Effect is no longer in the running. I'm a little disappointed but I think with some more editing I can eventually sell The Jericho Effect to a publisher or agent. Guess it's time to get back to work. I'm not going to give up on it, it's a great story after all. At least through the contest I got a little publicity, a few good reader reviews and a Publisher's Weekly review. Amazon also informed me that all Quarterfinalist excerpts will be available as free Kindle downloads until the end of June.

April Writing News Update
Just wanted to let everyone know, my artist and I revised the cover of A Time of Training a little bit. Click the e-store link on the left side of the blog or the one on the Facebook fan group to see the slight changes. Personally, I think it looks better than ever.
