Quests E-books for Sale

Hello readers! I wanted to let you know that the e-book version of Quests is now up for sale for those who would like to buy a copy. You can find it for Kindle here and for Nook here. The story will also remain available for free in the blog archives. As I have been seeing better sales from my e-books than my print books in recent years, I am not planning to make Quests available in print at this time unless I receive an overwhelming number of requests for print books. For this reason, if you want a print copy of the book please say so. I plan to take some time off from writing and will most likely not announce a new writing project for some time. Until I return, please enjoy my old stories which as always will remain available on the blog and for sale on Kindle and Nook. Happy reading and take care!

A Writing Update (Finally...)

Hello Readers!

Sorry for the unexplained year long vacation from writing. I thought I should finally sit down and write a quick note to let you all know what is going on with my writing and plans for the coming year.

First of all, my new ideas are coming together really slowly which is part of why I have not posted anything recently. That said, in looking back over the blog and some of my old stories, I decided I would like to wrap up my Quests series once and for all. I'm actually really pleased with the serial version of Quests part 1 posted here on the blog. I already have a draft of part 2 waiting for edits after which it can appear on the blog as well. I'm still debating whether to write enough episodes to make it a 3 part series or just adding a couple episodes to the end of part 2 which would wrap up the plot. Either way I hope to post a new episode sometime in January. As I mentioned in a couple of last year's posts, I was feeling overwhelmed with trying to blog every week. This coming year you should expect to see 1 or 2 posts a month, most likely a new episode each month and an occasional additional post for news.

Another thing I recently decided is that when I re-publish Quests I'm going to sell the entire series as a single volume rather than breaking it into 2 or 3 books and the separate parts will not bear their own names. I apologize to those of you who already bought a copy of part 1. However, with all the changes I've made to the series, an updated version of part 1 will help make sense of the later parts, plus you will now be able to get all 2 or 3 parts for the price of one book! The series will also remain available on the blog for anyone who wishes to read it for free.

If you have not read Quests yet or if you wish to refresh your memory you can start with the series prologue here. After that just follow the link to episode 1 at the end of the post. You should be able to get through the entire series just by following the links at the end of each episode. Also, you'll notice I have changed the look of the blog slightly. It was just time for something new.

nb Check back in January for the new episode and until then, Merry Christmas and Happy Reading!

Quests Episode Fifteen: “They’re in the Woods!”

Just a couple news items and reminders before I proceed to today's story:

After this post I will be taking a break to prepare for and celebrate the Christmas season. When I return to blogging I will begin posting part 2 of Quests.

Also, when I resume the story after New Year's I will be switching to a new episode every month rather than every week, though I may have an additional post every few months.

This is the last episode of Quests part 1. I hope you have enjoyed reading it here on the blog.

Now back to the story...

Read the series prologue.

Read episode fourteen.

Episode Fifteen: “They’re in the Woods!”

“Lilac, wake up.”

It was late at night with only the smallest sliver of the moon casting light on the sleeping depths of Fairy Wood but someone was shaking Lilac’s shoulder. She woke and turned to look into a freckled face.

“Reuben!” she cried in a loud whisper. “What are you doing here?”

“I was out flying and I saw something,” Reuben replied. “I wanted to tell you.”

“Come back in the morning,” Lilac growled, rolling over.

“It can’t wait ’till the morning. It’s really important.”

“Well then hurry up and tell me!” snapped Lilac, impatient to get back to sleep.

“An army of goblins and trolls is marching into the woods.”

“What!” cried Lilac pulling herself into a sitting position. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, I saw them.”

“Do you remember where they were? Could you show me?”

“I think so,” Reuben replied.

“Then let’s go,” said Lilac jumping to her feet.

“Right now?”

“Yes,” she said turning to face him. “You were right. This can’t wait for morning.”

A little later, Lilac and Reuben perched on a tree branch overlooking a large group of marching goblins and trolls.

“How many do you think there are?” Lilac whispered.

“I can’t tell,” Reuben whispered back.

“This isn’t good,” said Lilac. “They must have found out that we know they were the ones who poisoned the water.”

They watched in silence for a minute before Lilac added, “They’ll have to camp somewhere out of the sun during the day. They have trolls with them.”

“Yeah,” agreed Reuben. “I hadn’t thought about that.”

“I’m sure they did. Come on, let’s see if we can find out where they’re going.”

They flew out of the tree and moved toward the front of the army. Suddenly a goblin cried out, “Look there, it’s a pixie!”

His captain cried, “Quick, catch it!”

Lilac looked at Reuben in alarm, wondering why the goblins hadn’t seen her also. Suddenly she understood.

“Reuben they can see your light!” she cried. “We have to get out of here, fast! Take my hand. I don’t want us getting separated.”

Obedient for once, Reuben grabbed the hand Lilac held out to him. They flew into the thicker parts the woods as fast as they could. Behind them, goblins crashed through the trees and undergrowth trying to find the fairy spies. As they passed a hollow log Lilac tugged on Reuben’s arm, pulling him inside the small space with her. They landed at the bottom of the log, hiding Rueben’s tell-tale light.

Lilac waited until the sounds of shouting and stomping faded into the distance before whispering, “So long as they don’t find us we’ll wait here until morning. They should make camp when the sun comes up, so it will be safe to go out then.”

Reuben nodded. He glanced at the opening in the log as if he expected a goblin to reach in and grab him. With a shudder he pulled his legs to his chest trying to hide the fact that he was trembling. Lilac regarded him for a minute, taking note of all this.

“When the light comes,” she said at last, “we have to fly as fast as we can to find the fairy queen. A Dark army in the woods means only one thing.”

“What?” asked Reuben with a mixture of fear and fascination.

“War,” Lilac replied.

End of Part 1

Continue to episode sixteen.

A Quick News Update

Yes, I know I have fallen behind in my posts again. I have a lot of other projects I'm working on at home and sometimes blogging gets pushed lower on the list. For that reason I have decided to switch my blogging schedule to one story post a month with an addition news post every once in a while when I have announcements and such to share. I will begin writing on this new schedule in January of 2014 at which time I hope to begin posting part 2 of the Quests series. In the meantime I still have 2, possibly 3 episodes from Quests part 1 which I will edit then post in the next couple weeks before Thanksgiving. The next episode is not quite ready to make its appearance today, but you can expect to see it either late this week or early next week, so stay tuned!

Delayed Release of Quests Episode 7

Just wanted to write a quick note to let all my readers know that I am delaying the release of Quests Episode Seven until next Wednesday. Some things came up last week, including a funeral for a close family friend who died unexpectedly in a horse riding accident, so I did not have time to edit the episode properly in time to post it this week. The new episode should be ready by next week, at which time I will have the series back on track. Thank you all for your patience and please keep the Walker family in your prayers during this time of mourning.

Quests status update

Sorry for the delay between posts. I got busy around the 4th of July and episode 4 of Quests took me longer to edit than I was hoping. I'm going to spend one more week making last minute edits to episode 4 and will post it next Wednesday. The series will continue as planned after that and I will be sure to alert you if I run into any more delays. Thank you for your patience and please check back next week to read more of the Quests series.

Quests Serial Novel, Coming Soon!

I must once again apologize for my extended silence and lack of updates this year. It took me a lot longer than I was hoping to pull my new writing projects together and decide which ones to give my attention. However, I'm finally ready to come out of the woodwork and make the big announcement about the wonderful new things you can expect to read from yours truly.

I think several of you enjoyed reading the Silver Sword Saga as I posted episodes here in a serial novel format for a little over a year. If you haven't read these stories yet you can find the collection for sale on Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook or in this paperback edition. I really enjoyed the serial novel style of writing and have decided to continue to post stories to my blog in a serial format before releasing them for sale.

That brings me to my next bit of news: starting the end of May/beginning of June I will be serializing my Quests series and posting episodes to my blog every Wednesday. The Quests 1 prologue involving some Irowasan mythology which sets the scene for the series will be posted Wednesday, May 29 followed by the 1st episode June 5. If for whatever reason I run into delays in releasing an episode, I will announce so here along with a new estimated release date.

Now some of you may be thinking, "Okay, but the first book of Quest is already up for sale and I can just go buy it and read it." Well, it is true that I published book one a few years ago, but since the set up of the series practically begs to be serialized, I've decided to take the first book down, make some changes and re-release it via the blog before releasing the rest of the series. As of June 1st the old version of Quests 1 will no longer be available for sale, so if you desperately want to buy the old version, May 2013 is your last chance to do so!

Your next questions are probably, "What can I expect to see in the new version of Quests? What's going to be different about the serialized edition?" The answer is that you will see a much more streamlined story. There were far too many times in book one where I rambled or went off on long tangents. All of those places will be cut out, which I'll admit will mean that I'll be cutting whole episodes in places and dropping some fairly good material! :,( The bottom line, though, is that it will be a much stronger, tighter, more exciting story that sticks to its central plot. For those of you who don't know or forgot what that plot is, here's the summery from the back of book 1:

Training for quests seemed hard but the quest for Fairy Wood may prove even harder...

Beritta, princess of elves, longs for the adventure of a real quest until she and her friend, Faralasa, are sent to Fairy Wood to protect unicorns. Once there, they learn that some sinister force is at work, polluting the forest’s waterways. Meanwhile, in deep twisting caverns of an underground city Fedrick, a goblin boy, and Felnar, a troll girl, must convince a terrible snake monster named Serpina to become an ally before she kills all the creatures living under the mountain. When the dwarves are attacked by Serpina and the goblins, a fairy messenger named Lilac, and her friends give the dwarves a gift to protect them. Then, as the water in Fairy Wood mysteriously becomes poisoned, the fairies and elves join forces to fight the growing threat and protect the forest.

Join their Quests...

I would love to have lots of readers following this and all my serial novels, so please help me spread the word and return on May 29th to begin reading the Quests series!

Winter News 2012

Hello Readers!

Sorry for the lack of new posts recently, I've been busy with the baby and my new ideas are coming together a bit slowly. Still, I think it is about time I write a note to let you know what's new with my writing.

My biggest writing news is that in the coming year I will be shifting my genre focus from fantasy to adventure. You can probably expect to see some samples of my new swash-buckling tales some time after New Year's or whenever I pull enough of my notes together to decide where to begin.

I also plan to rewrite my drafts of Quests 2 and my NaNoWriMo fantasy book from 2010 with the working title, "Magic War", so watch for updates on those stories this next year as well.

My last bit of news is that I still plan to write a new series of stories to be featured here on the blog in the way that I posted the Silver Sword Saga stories last year and the year before. I will announce the basic plot of the new series in a couple weeks and you should expect to see the opening episode in early January.

I wish you all the best of the season and success in your preparations for Christmas!

April News

Well hello again readers! I thought I should write a quick post to let you all know what is happening with my writing.

A few months ago my husband and I discovered that I am pregnant with our first child! Baby is about 19 weeks along and is due August 26. We don't know yet if we're having a boy or a girl. As a result of this wonderful new development in my life, much of my writing has moved to the back burner. Due to the slowness of progress being made on all my writing projects there are 3 things of which you should be aware.

1. Quest 2: Penumbra will most likely not be released this summer as I first announced. I do have a draft of the book completed but I just haven't gotten the time to sit down and give it all the edits and rewrites it needs. I will announce a new release date once I have a chance to look it over and determine how much work remains to be done on it.

2. It may take me longer than planned to post episodes for the new series of short stories I hoped to begin here on the blog after finishing the Silver Sword Saga. Continue to watch for updates on this one, though, since if I do find a few minutes to sit down and write I may be able to complete a few short blog length stories.

3. I have not started any new projects. This may be more due to mental distraction, however, since I've had plenty of times when I've been busy but still had ideas for stories to write once I got the chance. At the moment all my story ideas seem to be coming together very slowly and are not fully formed enough to be full projects. Again, this may change in a couple months so watch for updates.

I apologize if you are disappointed that there is not much new to read here. Please understand that even writers have lives outside their stories and sometimes we just get busy. If you are dying for something new to reading try heading over to the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award site and downloading the first couple chapters of one of the books that made it to the quarter or semi-final rounds. There are lots of great writers there who would love to have your support.

Happy reading!

Release of the Silver Sword Saga Anthology

I'm pleased to announce that the moment I have been building up to is finally here: I have released the collection of Silver Sword Saga stories for sale! The anthology is available in paperback from the Createspace e-store and Amazon.com for $6.00 as well as on Kindle for $3.00. I really enjoyed writing these stories and hope you will enjoy reading them just as much, so please check out this book.

I would also like you to know that my wonderful friend, the artist Karolyn Walker, has provided beautiful new cover art for my short stories Swan Warrior and Legend of Nomenie which are available on Kindle for $0.99. You can view the new artwork by clicking on the names of the stories above. Swan Warrior is also included in the Silver Sword Saga anthology but since it was a reader favorite here I chose to make it available separately for those who want to download just that story. All 5 parts of Swan Warrior are included in the $0.99 download.

Even though I have not entered this year, I would like to point out that the annual Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award is in progress and is currently in its second round. The quarterfinal round starts March 20th and that's where the contest gets interesting for readers because Amazon posts the first couple chapters of all the novels still in the running as free downloads. If you have a chance I highly recommend sampling some of these awesome novels. Just don't forget that the authors appreciate getting reviews which help them assess what readers think of their books. Also, if you have an Amazon account you can vote for the 2 winners, one in young adult one in adult fiction, starting on May 22. The contest is a lot of fun and the reader interaction in the last few rounds makes it interesting to follow too.

Take care and happy reading!

Next Year's Plans for the Blog

Hello readers! After my beautiful and wonderfully fun wedding I'm back to writing. I thought I'd drop a quick note to let you know my ideas for new writing projects so you'll know what to expect from me in the coming year.

First of all I am making paperback copies of The Jericho Effect available for $10.00 from Amazon.com and the Createspace e-store just in time for Christmas. This would make a perfect gift for any fantasy loving teen readers in your household. The book is also available from Kindle for $5.00. Consider downloading it if your teens have electronic readers.

I am working on a 2 part ending to the Silver Sword Saga. I will post both these episodes on different weeks in January. I plan to release the full collection of Silver Sword stories for sale in the spring. In the meantime you can catch up on past Silver Sword episodes by going to the post: Forging and following the links through the rest of the series.

This coming year I will be editing Quest 2: Penumbra, sequel to Quest: A Time of Training in hopes of being able to release the 2nd book over the summer. Click here to preview the prologue and opening episode of the new book and watch for more details.

Last, I have some new ideas on the horizon such as a new series of short stories for the blog once the Silver Sword Saga is finished. More on that after New Years. For now take care, happy reading and good luck with preparing for Christmas!

Fall 2011 News

Hello blog readers!

I wanted to write a quick note to explain that my writing projects have been interrupted by this crazy thing called LIFE! That brings me to my first and most important piece of news: on November 12, 2011 I am going to marry my childhood friend, Brien Hartung. Because I will be spending the next two months focusing on wedding preparations, all my writing projects are being put on hold until after November. This includes the conclusion of the Silver Sword Saga which I was originally planning to release around Halloween, the release of the Silver Sword anthology and my work on Quests 2.

In other news I plan to continue using "Rebekah Prudhomme" as my pen-name. If you wish to find updates on my writing projects you can continue to follow this blog, go to my Amazon Author Central page, or if you use Facebook "like" my brand new author fan page.

Also, this is the last month I will be selling the limited edition copies of The Jericho Effect. If you wish to buy a limited edition in either paperback or Kindle THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO DO SO. However, I may also make regular copies of The Jericho Effect available around Christmas time depending on how busy I am.

Lastly, several of my stories are still up for sale online, so please consider buying them and supporting my writing efforts.

Until I return to my writing some time after November I wish you happy reading!

Limited Edition Release!

To quote a song from a Disney cartoon, "It's here, the moment you've been waiting for!" That's right, the limited edition copies of The Jericho Effect are now for sale in paperback from Createspace and e-book from the Kindle store. Clearly some of you really have been waiting for this as several copies sold in the first day the book was available. At the end of September I will evaluate how the book did to decide if I will have a second print-run over the Christmas holidays and possibly make the book available for good. Still, this is your chance to get one of those limited edition copies to show off to your friends and keep as a collector's item, so please help me to keep my sales up over the summer. You can visit The Jericho Effect's Createspace e-store any time from now until September by clicking the picture of its cover in the sidebar of the blog. If you need any additional information don't hesitate to let me know in the comments or by dropping me an e-mail.

Other News

As an exciting development in my personal life and some family events will be keeping me busy over the summer, I have decided to delay the release of my new series of stories involving the sorcerer king of Rovinien until sometime next year.

I plan to release an anthology of the Silver Sword Saga Stories some time next year after the final Silver Sword story is featured here on the blog. If you are interested in this series or would like more information please let me know.

I have been revising a draft of Quests 2: Penumbra and plan to put up a preview of that book sometime this summer. Please continue to watch for details.

If you are interested in buying any of my other stories, please refer to the links in the post, "Stories For Sale!" or drop me an e-mail.

ABNA 2011 Round 1

The lists are now up announcing the authors and novels which made the cut and will advance to the 2nd round of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Sadly, my novel, The Jericho Effect, did not make the cut this year. I'm not too disappointed since I know I was up against some really great fellow aspiring authors. I intend to continue to follow the contest and support these other writers and I encourage my readers to do the same.

What does not making the cut mean for The Jericho Effect? Simple, it means it is time to look into other plans for moving this novel forward in the future. I was considering getting a few copies out to friends and family via print-on-demand and e-book over the summer. If you might be interested in obtaining a copy in this way please let me know and I'll be sure to keep you updated.

Review of the 2010 Writing Year

This has been a really amazing and productive writing year! I'm proud to announce that by completing Magic War in November I have finished at least first drafts of my original fantasy ideas from 2006. For this reason I decided to post a quick review of my projects from this year so you can see what I'm talking about.

Here goes:

ABNA 2010:

There was a rumbling and the ground shook from the strength of their voices. She stopped yelling and opened her eyes as the walls of the Black Castle split and crashed into the waters of the lake. From The Jericho Effect quarterfinalist for the 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award.

Silver Sword Saga:

The blessed metal now formed a human sized broadsword of pure silver. Balamus smiled for he knew that this weapon would be the most effective and deadly in all Irowasa. From Forging.

With an effort, Silvanus pulled the sword out of the table and examined it with gleaming blue eyes. This sword would make the Rovin clan invincible. From The First Unworthy.

A smile crossed Norin’s face and he lifted the Silver Sword to salute with it.
“Thank you. I will make sure it serves its purpose well.”
From Swan Warrior: Part 1.

"I know you care about what happens to the clans. You could put an end to the soldiers’ raids.” From Swan Warrior: Part 2.

“Rovinien and Sardi want us both dead.” Tayad turned to grin at Norin as he added, “Unfortunately for them we met before they could kill one of us.” From Swan Warrior: Part 3.

"The gypsy said that the emperor of Sardi is offering a huge reward for the capture of the warrior with the sword of white fire, which I know is what the slavers call you." From Swan Warrior: Part 4.

“Look!” said Elena. She leaned closer to Norin and pointed to a magnificent bird with feathers the color of coal. “It is your sign. The Lord of Light has blessed you.” From Swan Warrior: Part 5.

A sudden anger filled Weston, fueling his actions. He turned, grabbed the Silver Sword off its stand and flung it through the gap at the fairy queen. From Fairy Vault.

Elmonrona gasped as she realized that this was the Silver Sword she had heard about in legends. The sword itself proved her to be the right person for the job for it was a weapon of justice and it had chosen to help her fight Drazil. From Riddle of the Stones.

National Novel Writng Month 2010

As members of this diverse army the Warriors of Light now marched into battle against the Dark Magicians. From Magic War, NaNoWriMo project 2010.

So what's in store for Irowasa in 2011? Stay tuned for updates!

NaNoWriMo 2010: Magic War

This November for National Novel Writing Month I, Rebekah Prudhomme, am proud to present the tale of Irowasa’s magic war!

Synopsis: Luker and Agwana, the children of witches possessing strange abilities as the after effects of magical experiments, escape a cult of Dark Magicians and flee to Fairy Wood. Fearing they will jeopardize his secret plans, the sorcerer Drazil hires mercenaries to hunt them.

For Elmonrona, the fairy queen's monster hunter, a partnership with Luker and Agwana provides the key to finding Drazil, whom she has been hunting for years. The trail takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon a village in the kingdom, Windola which is plagued by monsters. There Elmonrona and the children form an alliance with other warriors determined to use all their skills to stop Drazil's evil from spreading.

Background: Magic War was inspired by a trip to York, England in 2006 and was more fully fleshed with the help of a few friends with big imaginations and the inclination to dress up in odd costumes and fight battles against imaginary monsters. Now all those friends finally get to see their daring deeds written as a novel just as I promised when the “war” ended. For those of you who were waiting for this story I apologize that it took me so long to organize my notes. To the rest of you I just have to say, get ready for a super exciting story full of magicians, monsters, fairies and warriors battling for dominance through magic! Also be sure to watch for a couple teaser clips from the book which I’ll be posting later this month.
